My one day to sleep in and here I am blogging at 7:00am because our wonderful neighbors which must be a family of 8, have literally opened and allowed their door to slam shut in access of 10 times in a 30 minute period. As I type sitting indian style, still in my pjs and cuddled up in bed I am running through what I would like to do today. I have the pleasure of doing whatever I want. I decided to start out with going down to breakfast in my best pajamas ; ) The line was long as everyone has waited until 8:30 just like I had. I grab my breakfast sausage, english muffin and yogurt and head back to the room. I enjoy my breakfast and as it gets toward the end of my meal of I begin to feel sleepy so I decide to nap. The ultimate treat of sleep eat repeat. My free day is going to be amazing. I woke up around 11:00am feeling even more refreshed and rested. We decide to do some laundry so we don't come back with too many dirty clothes. My roommates understandably did not want to have a schedule on our only day off and I knew I wanted to get out and explore. So, I decided to take a leap. I got showered which took longer than I thought it would because I may or may have not let the hot water run and run while I just stood there. I rushed to get ready as I was feeling the thrill of exploring New Orleans alone and knew I wanted to get to Royale street to look a the art galleries. I downloaded the UBER app on my iPhone with the help of my roommates and booked my first trip to Galerie Rue Royale. I waited outside in front of the hotel.
Your UBER is 4min away I read. My heart raced a little. I was picked up my a very nice elderly Middle Eastern gentlemen in a mini van. We made our way to the Gallery and he dropped me off right at the front door. I see an African American man in a wonderfully tailored suit. He shakes my hand and says "What can I help you with beautiful?" I explain I am in town for a upper level gen ed nursing course. I told him I looked at a map and picked this place to visit. I explained how I wanted to look around. He looked at me and said "Well I am the Director of this Gallery and let's get you an A!" and winked at me.
He walked me around the gallery explaining anything he can think of like my own private tour. The colors and details were out of this world. The wide variety of collections were exquisite. I got the pleasure of picking out my artist for the art blog which was a difficult decision in such a beautiful place like that. From there, I met my roommates at The Original Pierre Maspero's again for dinner because those crab cakes are irresistible. After dinner, I met a friend from Peoria who was here for the night because her port is located here for her cruise.
We went to the Joan of Arc parade together. It was bone chilling cold outside. Everyone was dressed for the weather and the people in the parade were dressed in a variety of costumes. There was a wide variety of music which was awesome to be so close to. I headed back to the room instead of going out as my blisters had different evening plans for me.
Today was beyond wonderful. It was a nice slow paced morning full of here and there blogging, dawdling and procrastinating as far as getting out of my pajamas and ready for day. I know it is corny but, I feel like I could live in New Orleans or visit more than once a year like Colleen does. I actually overheard a woman while I was walking who said she can't go a long time without coming back to this city and that they come here at least four to six times a year. All I would be missing is my boyfriend of almost 10 years which I wonder if I could talk him into a trip down here when I get back to see if he would love it as much as me. I think he could fall in love like I have. The only thing I don't think either of us could tolerate is the heat. We like it cold but I do not know how cold we could tolerate as well. Even the director of the art gallery told me how awful it can get in the summer. He said it is hard to put into words and it can get hard to breathe. I wouldn't mind seeing how hot it can get. I am really fortunate to have had such a great experience with him at the gallery. He was such a gentlemen and had a wealth of knowledge and I got the bonus of finding my artist for my blog. It was great to leave there, know exactly where to go and navigate the city by myself and I agree with Colleen when she said the city is actually pretty easy to get around in once you have done it a couple of times. I loved walking slow and seeing things that I did not catch or have the time to look at originally, especially in the recent down pour and thunderstorm. I am also so very glad I got the opportunity to go back to the The Original Pierre Maspero's. I tried the shrimp po boy this time but only could eat the shrimp and not the bread because like I mentioned before I could not go there and not get the crab cakes. I got a little too full on the appetizer of heaven. I also tried the Jambalaya for the first time which was delicious. I do not how I am going to go back home and eat normal food. I have been spoiled by all the delicious meals and cocktails. I am a little worried about tomorrow as my feet are turning into one giant blister. I have mentioned before, I am concerned that people think that my blisters are from being over weight or inactive when really I have always gotten blisters, sometimes more severe than others. Well, let's just pray I can hang tomorrow. I look forward to the Cemetery and Presbytere and hope I get the chance of seeing them.
